Roadtrip 2008, Day 11

No hikes today, we just drove to the various view points of Bryce Canyon. Lots of deep snow and icy ways. As every year, I fell on one of those ways and slightly strained my right ankle and left wrist. The wrist is worse, but it's bearable. My father has problems with his knees, my mother doesn't like snow hikes anyway, the Navajo Loop was too steep for both of them and the weather was getting a bit unstable when we came to the trail head of Queens Garden. Nevertheless, Bryce Canyon in the snow is really gorgeous. My favourite US National Park so far.

The ravens become more insistent, too.

Due to the upcoming high winds and the lack of hiking opportunities, we left the park at 3 PM. A good chance to avoid the wait in front of the tunnel on the SR 9 for the escort (and the $ 15 fee.) I vaguely remembered a limitation on the SR 14 for large vehicles, though. Not quite, though.

Dear UDOT, while it is certainly a good idea to warn drivers about high grades and maximum elevation of 10,000 ft, and that driving there with a semi truck isn't advised, and that the highway gets plowed only at daytime... Well, it is less than a bright idea placing the sign about winter tyres or snow chains being required from November to March after all the warnings, and forgetting to plow the turn area after the sign. No other safe places to turn around for miles, so we had to continue on the SR 14. Luckily, the road was dry except some very few spots and the wind wasn't a problem.
