Well, this weekend we had the final pawpet show rehearsal before Eurofurence. We were quite busy, unfortunately some props and puppets are still missing (but they will be ready for Eurofurence!), and it was countless hours of hard work. On Saturday, we played the three acts in reverse order as some scenes in act three and two are quite tricky to play and we wanted to play them while concentration was still available. It was, um, a bit tenacious and the timing was off quite a number of times. No reason to be bothered, though, as this is usually the turning point at which we start to get a real feeling for the timing. And indeed, the rehearsal on Sunday was much better, almost perfect. Much better concentration, more self-confidence, and nearly perfect timing. I'm now completely confident that it will be a great show this year again. For those attending Eurofurence: don't miss it! No, really. Do not miss it under any circumstances. It will be incredibly funny, tragic, moving, nonsensical and supercalifragilisticexpialidotious! Get addicted!
In case someone reads this who's not familiar with the European furry fandom: one of the highlights of each year's Eurofurence convention is a so-called pawpet show, a puppet show for (almost) grown-ups. I'm honoured to be allowed to contribute to that show as a stagehand and occasionally supporting puppeteer for the fourth year now.
This year, Mephit Mini Con was a blast, despite of all the stress the days before. As bigbluefox already mentioned, some of us took part in a recording session with a German TV team to capture some fursuit action and interviews on Thursday (more on this later, when I've seen the actual report), which meant that I had to arrive in time. I feared that this would be near impossible, as Reesa, Eisfuchs and BlackDragon where travelling with me and the A9 from Bayreuth to Nuremberg was closed due to an accident for several hours. But everyone arrived in time, we even managed to stuff all luggage, including a complete electronic drum kit and a guitar, into my car without having something or someone leaving behind...
The Eurofurence crew was here yesterday, measuring the size of the function space for EF 11 that is available at the Youth Hostel of Nuremberg. Somewolf arrived at approximately 10 pm on Friday, nachtfuchs, Jaryic, cheetah_spotty and tanidareal at 1:30 am on Saturday at my place -- luckily I have enough spare beds in my flat to offer everyone of them a place to sleep :-) After a quick breakfast we met Eisfuchs and Reesa at the youth hostel and had a very successful meeting with the manager. The location is REALLY beautiful and the youth hostel staff very friendly and professional. This year's eurofurence will top the previous one without a doubt, even if it is hard to believe for everyone who's been at EF X.
Further Confusion -- with lots of confusion. Or should I say irritation? Well, the convention itself was great most of the time. Very relaxed mood and you didn't really notice that over 1700 furries attended. Where have all these people been all the time? From the crowds on the floors and in the SIGs room you would have gotten the impression that this was a fairly small convention. Maybe the majority was sitting in there hotel rooms and watching the unbearable FurCon TV programming, featuring what appeared to be a bad video of last year's DooDa Parade (or however that is spelled), last year's iron artist competition and the worst of Funday Pawpet Show. Anyway, guess this kept the fanboy ratio rather low.
Tension rising, collecting things here and there, throwing everything needed in one box, cleaning the suitcase from dust it has collected over the years, trying to remember what's still missing, collecting a shopping list... And all that because I'm going to Further Confusion! And of course not alone (that would surely suck), I've joined a bunch of friends: nachtfuchs, Jaryic, cheetah_spotty, tanidareal, bigbluefox, Foxy, cheepaw, Furvan, Rhondil, gideon_hoss. And of course since a trip across the Atlantic and just for three days would be quite pointless we'll roam California and Nevada with two RVs after the convention for two weeks.
