My flight to Frankfurt will start in 90 minutes, from there we'll fly non-stop to San Francisco. At last! More when I've got net access again ;-)
Thanks, nachtfuchs and Jaryic for the great party, kralle_lion for cooking and the bar crew for the drinks! I had a blast, met lots of great people again and arrived home safely at 1 AM this morning after a detour via loewi's place, KFC and Bayreuth... Loewi's coffee is indeed excellent, and the stop at KFC was an excellent way to get in mood for the US roadtrip -- starting this Friday. Which reminds me that I rather should start packing instead of posting to LJ :-)

My parents, my sister and I went to the opera house of Osnabrück yesterday and watched Giaccomo Puccini's opera Turandot. It was an highly entertaining performance with excellent singers and orchestra. Especially Ricardo Tamura (Calaf) and Iordanka Derilova (Turandot), who are not only very expressive singers and convincing actors, they can also sing at a volume that brings down the walls of the theatre, while still maintaining perfect modulation... Truely amazing. The choir was almost equally impressive. It used to be only average in the past, but this time I was listening mouth agape. There is only one word to describe their performance: perfect. Of course, everyone else was also very good, a great team on stage.
Ich wünsche allen ein frohes Weihnachtsfest, und denen die ich bis Neujahr nicht sehe, schon einmal ein schönes neues Jahr!
The machine running yaina.de crashed twice within the last two months, so I decided to do some maintenance work. At the data center which is housing the system I discovered that my suspicions were right: Indeed, the CPU fan didn't move, and the power supply fans were stuck as well. Hence, I decided to take the machine home and fix it. First problem: I could not get the heat sink from the CPU (which I had to remove to get the fan off the heat sink),instead the CPU came out of its socket. Luckily, a colleague showed me how to get it off: take the blade of a box cutter, place it on the gap between the heat spreader and the heat sink and hit the blade carefully with a hammer. (Naturally, this will only work with chips that have a metal heat spreader plate. Try at your own risk.)
Last weekend I've been to tanidareal's excellent birthday party. It felt like a whole week of vacation. Many thanks to Tani for the invitation! And of course, I'd also like to thank kralle_lion for crash space and breakfast as well as Eisfuchs and FinFarenath for keeping me awake on the trip back. I hope I didn't bore you folks too much with my constant drivel... ;-)
