Califorina 2009: Peanuts

This is the last day of our vacation. After breakfast at Denny's, fortunately at one of their better subsidiaries, we drove to the Charles Schulz Museum. A very intriguing place with lots of Schulz' original Peanuts strips, information about his life and work, and the historical context the comic strips appeared in. We even saw the To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA special exhibition which officially opens tomorrow. Unlike museums about other artists, this one is as modest and factual as Schulz himself was.

While we passed several road signs to Petaluma, we resisted the urge and proceeded on Highway 1. It was sometimes quite, sometimes just a bit foggy, which was a very interesting sight. The landscape is quite different from the southern route. Hard to describe... It is rougher, colder, thus different vegetation.

We're now in a Best Western hotel in San Mateo near the airport and packing. I had a tasty western steak and a great cheese cake for dinner at Lyon's. Surprisingly good for a restaurant chain. Not so good is the complimentary WLAN at the hotel. It doesn't work. I'm able to occasionally reach the AP of a nearby McDonnalds, but the connection is too unstable. Will post later.
