A stranded traveler, plumbing, cables and a good glass of whisky

So, what happend last week? Well...

On Wednesday night doco asked me if he could stay for one night as he wasn't able to travel from Budapest to Essen in one day. Thus, I picked him up at Nuremberg station on Friday morning at 1:35 AM, assigned the sofa to him, made some coffee at approx. 9:30 and put him back on rail (luckily, there is a tram station nearby) at 10:30. I hope he got home safely, I haven't heard anything of him yet...

Yesterday I finally fixed the drain of the kitchen sink, it was totally congested with some black goo. The simple spiral didn't work for me, so I bought a more sophisticated version. How is the simple version supposed to work anyway? All it does is twisting around itself... Pouring 750 ml of Rorax into the clogged drain finished the job. I really hate this repair, it has to be done every year. To really fix the problem my landlord would have to exchange the drain with a PVC tube, but that would mean breaking down half of my kitchen for which I really do not have the nerve to.

What else? Oh, yes. Cables. I recently bought an inexpensive 5.1 speaker system as the stereo downmix of the Eurofurence X pawpet show DVD does not have any atmosphere. Of course, this means more cables (70 meter) -- sorry, no photos as they are virtually invisble in my room, guess why I need 70 m of cable? -- and a new amplifier (one of these). However, looking at the current bank statement reveals that I'll have to wait till next month for the amp. Anyway, it took me three hours today to install the cables, but I guess it will be worth the effort. Of course, the 5.1 speakers can't and won't replace my Braun stereo speakers, yet a test run with the EF X DVD was very promising. In fact, after some fiddling with the levels and delays it was like WOOOOW!!!111eleven. Not bad for 150 €, not bad at all. (And the subwoofer alone is worth the price, IMHO. Impressive.)

And right now? Well, I'm sitting here with some Lay's Natural crisps and a fine glass of Ardbeg. I'm ususally not that fond of Islay whiskies due to their strong salty and tangish taste, but Ardbeg is the exception. Yes, it tastes strong, salty and tangish. But then again, it does not hide all the myriades of other flavours... Each time I take a sip I discover a new one. Amazing stuff, really amazing. And quite affordable, too.
