While everyone else is on the way to California...

...I got a hair cut, received the second TBEV vaccination shot and had a productive meeting.

Busy day

It was my turn to do the Große Hausordnung. After cleaning the sidewalk, patio, the front and back doors (I still don't understand why that has to be done every week), the attic and the basement I finally drove to a car parts store to replace the dying battery of my car. Luckily, the engine still started and I didn't have to use the bus to get to the shop. I drove to the gas station afterwards to get some gas (still quite expensive) and proceeded to the grocery store. On the way back I bought antifreeze for the washer system at a different gas station.

A million flies can't be wrong

In a recent discussion (which doesn't belong here) someone wrote:

Because users will not stay at a place where policy and leadership is bad.

I've been a user of ham radio AX.25 BBS since 1989, Usenet News since 1991, web forums since they came up. In my experience, the opposite is true. Social projects with poor leadership can be extremely successful, regardless better alternatives. It isn't limited to technology. I served my civilian service at an elderly care service, the leadership was not existing, at best. Except some few exceptions, the staff was worse than incompetent. The few competent employees and helpers were bullied. Nevertheless, the (supposedly) non-profit society was and is the most successful organization of that type in town, even though there are better alternatives. It's really frustrating, and in case of elderly care, outright life-threatening.

Outdoor stores without outdoor equipment?

I had to buy a pair of hiking poles as a birthday present for my father and Outdoor Heller is closed for two weeks. So I went to the local Jack Wolfskin store. I noticed before that their choice in outdoor equipment is getting less and less, but I learned that they do not have any hiking poles at all anymore. I noticed similar things in the US (at least in Utah), most of these stores have become fashion shops. Fortunately, we have a large choice of department and sports (as in "move your body", not "shoot some critters") stores here in Nürnberg which have outdoor and camping equipment. But nevertheless, the trend is disturbing.

Busy weekend, again.

My original plans for the weekend were editing photographs of my vacation in January (cleaning up sensor dust...), however headaches kept me from doing so. Instead, I...

  • brought my car to the car-wash

  • brought all bottles to the recycling station

  • bought a new bulb for the bathroom

  • went to a department store to buy a beard trimmer

  • bought a plushie instead

  • cleaned the shower curtain with a chlorine cleaner to get rid of those greasy dark spots

  • washed my clothes

  • cleaned my bicycle

Lecker!

Lobkowicz Baron

Dark beer Baron by Czech brewery Lobkowicz. Excellent stuff, on sale at Norma's (infrequently, though.)

I went shopping today...

...and I bought this pair of telescopic hiking poles:

Sunday car trip

I went on a day trip yesterday to test my new car navigation system in a non-familiar region. Even though I had been researching possible destinations for a couple of days, I decided rather spontaniously to drive to the wild animal park Bad Mergentheim. I have to appologise to lynard_ for not asking to join me, but I was afraid to call him up at 6 on a Sunday morning... :-)
