And now for the second batch:

Anne Clark — The Smallest Acts Of Kindness

The new album by Anne Clark was released just yesterday. It is the first studio album after several years of hiatus, touring and guest appearances on other project's records. And the wait was worth the time. The album comes as a small hardcover collection of poems with a CD. The print quality of the booklet is great, the lyrics too, and of course also the actual CD. Anne is performing together with her exceptionally talented live band and the amazing electronic music experimentalist Manuel "Xabec" Richter. Musically, it is a mix of electronica with influences of new wave (of course), techno and sound collages on some tracks, and acoustic rock and pop on the others, which fits quite well together. The production quality is superb. I'm deeply impressed and honestly surprised to hear such a fresh album.

Chumbawamba — Get on With It

Chumbawamba had a series of radio hits in the late 80th and early 90th with titles like "Timebomb", "Tubthumping", "Jacobs Ladder", "Homophobia" or "On Ebay (From Babylon to Babylon)" Originally a punk band, their style changed over the years. Lately they've rearranged some old worker and protest songs from the beginning of the 20th century, which fit perfectly to their own songs and give a good overview about the the British tradition of protest songs. The minimal instrumentation of the live acoustic set nicely supports their excellent harmony vocals.

If you think you've read this critique before you are probably right. In fact, this live album perfectly catches the atmosphere of their stage performances. Also, the engineering is perfect.

Eagles — Hotel California

A true classic. Simply one of the best records ever made. Everything has been said about this album. Just one question remains: why was it missing from my collection for so long?
