On site...

For the last two days I was on a customer site... They had reported some very strange performance issues while testing varous server hardware. System becoming "unresponsive" after only 2000 TCP connects on a connection rate test, latency increasing by 400% periodically for short amounts of time on load tests.

And guess what, when I came to take a look, the symptoms where gone. In fact, the machine performed more than 100% better than before. Even though the machine and the test setup hasn't changed for weeks (I've checked, that is actually true.) Instant healing? I don't think so.

The only thing that has changed is that the network driver doesn't report any errors and frame drops anymore. The customer's networking guys claim that they haven't touched anything. Yeah, right.

Gah... that just sounds like our network id^h^h guys.... 'we have changed absolutely nothing' - 'but last weekend you had a maintenance weekend' - 'but we didnt change anything, it must be your program' - 'i didnt touch the program for more than 10 months and until last weekend it ran perfectly' - 'uhm... maybe we installed an update'

;)
